New tools available for uninsured
The North Carolina Institute of Medicine has released two new resources to help more North Carolinians take advantage of free or low-cost health care.
The first is a new website, http://www.nchealthcarehelp.org/, that provides the locations of safety-net services available throughout the state.
The site, created with funding from The Duke Endowment, will be updated with new service locations as they become available.
"Today, more than 1.5 million North Carolinians do not have health insurance," Pam Silberman, president and CEO of the Institute of Medicine, says in a statement. "This website will help people find the healthcare services they need but cannot afford."
The Institute also created a technical-assistance manual designed to help communities identify needs and design health-care safety-net services for their areas.
The manual, funded by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina, can be found online at http://www.nciom.org/.
