Duke ranks ninth in fundraising

Duke University ranked ninth in fundraising among colleges and universities in the U.S. in 2007, and first in North Carolina, a new study says.

The annual survey, conducted by the Council for Aid to Education, found total donations to higher education rose to $29.75 billion in 2007. (See related story.)

The top 20 fundraising schools, though accounting for only 2 percent of respondents, received over a quarter of all contributions.

Duke was the only North Carolina school in the top 20.

North Carolina schools that raised the most  in 2007 include:

  • Duke University: $372.3 million
  • University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill: $246.9 million
  • North Carolina State University at Raleigh: $162.4 million
  • Wake Forest University: $69.2 million
  • Davidson College: $34.3 million
  • East Carolina University: $21.6 million.
  • University of North Carolina at Greensboro: $16.4 million
  • Elon University: $13.5 million
  • Appalachian State University: $12.4 million
  • University of North Carolina at Charlotte: $11.1 million
