WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - A group of teen grantmakers in Winston-Salem has awarded grants totaling $2,500 to five local groups.
Youth Grantmakers in Action, a program of the Winston-Salem Foundation, is made up of Forsyth County youth ages 14 to 17 who want to gain leadership experience, represent the area's youth and provide money for positive youth-led community projects.
Recipients and grants for 2008 include:
- Asian Sensation received $275 for children's musical performance at a local library
- Family Career and Community Leaders of America Club received $685 for a childcare program at BEES parent meetings
- Gamma Phi Delta Teens and Cavaliers received $1,000 for a city-wide youth conference
- Kid's Café': Through a New Lens received $340 for a photo-journal mentoring project
- Youth United received $200 for the dedication ceremony of youth-built house
The program was started in 2005 with financial support from the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust in Winston-Salem.
