Goodmons receive award for AIDS work

RALEIGH, N.C. - In recognition of their efforts to fight HIV/AIDS in minority communities, Jim and Barbara Goodmon have received a national award from the National Minority Quality Forum.

Jim Goodmon is president of Raleigh's Capitol Broadcasting Company and chair of the board of the A.J. Fletcher Foundation, which publishes the Philanthropy Journal.

His wife, Barbara, is president of the foundation.

The 2008 Health Promotions and Disease Prevention award was presented by the Forum, in cooperation with the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation and the Congressional Black Caucus Braintrust.

The Goodmons work in the HIV/AIDS arena has included support of the "Get Real, Get Tested" campaign, for which Capitol Broadcasting matched donations dollar-for-dollar and allowed television commercials to be aired during prime-time viewing hours.

The Goodmons received the award at the 2008 Booker T. Washington Awards Luncheon in Washington, D.C., on April 14.
